2012 Sustainable Communities Update
Date: 1/17/2012
Dear friends and colleagues:
In 2010, HUD established the Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities to help advance sustainability within HUD’s programs and to strengthen our engagement with other federal agencies through the Partnership for Sustainable Communities to better coordinate federal programs and policies to create more housing opportunities, increase transportation choices, strengthen economic development, and support existing and inclusive communities. Since its creation, the Office launched three new grant programs providing funding to 143 communities and regions supporting work across the country in urban, suburban and rural communities. As you may be aware, HUD’s Sustainable Communities Initiative was not funded in the FY2012 appropriations, however, the Office was funded and continues to be actively engaged. On behalf of Secretary Shaun Donovan, the Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities cordially invites you to a conference call to update you on the accomplishments of the office and its priorities for 2012.
