Downtown West Newton, Inc. is reviewing proposals from community planning and design firms to complete a plan, design and budget to develop the downtown area surrounding the West Newton Trail head of the Yough River Trail.
The design plan is to include:
Trail head landscaping and signage
Spur trail options from the main trail
Cyclist access onto and across the bridge deck
Bridge design enhancements
River view locations
Parklets with bike racks at both ends of the bridge
Kiosks with events, maps and site highlights
Various public amenities
DWNI is looking for a design firm that can realize the community’s vision for connecting the downtown with opportunities from the trail market to improve the economic condition of the downtown and develop a design plan that would best suit the community’s unique assets. DWNI desires motivated and focused applicants.
Qualified proposals include experience in community and/or public design, the ability to provide detailed plans, workable designs and a production budget, good communication skills and samples of similar successful projects.
The design budget is $15,000 -- $5,000 at contract, $5,000 at midpoint and $5,000 upon completion. The design plan is to be completed by November 1, 2003.
All applicants must submit proposals by August 15, 2003. Successful proposals will receive notice of interview dates. Successful design firm will be notified before the project starting date of September 1, 2003.
